Hiking in Liguria
No matter what you have heard about the walking paths of Liguria from third parties, they offer experiences that you would not want to miss once you have had a small taste. Sample the sheer variety of the Ligurian countryside in one of the most desired hiking areas in the whole of Europe.
You will have opportunity in three different regions to discover this wonderful region from different footpaths. Thet include the Riviera di Ponente (French “Grenze – Genua”), the Riviera di Levante (Genua – La Spezia) and the hinterland.
The best place for wandering in the Riviera di Ponente is in the area around Finale Liguria. There you will discover the limestone rocks, bush forests and olive trees right at the sea's edge. However, you will also be walking through places of historical significance, because you will discover old Roman bridges, as well as ancient castles and churches.

The Riviera di Levante, probably the most famous region, is justifiably not only the most popular area for wandering in Italy, but also in Europe. This is due to the Cinque Terre area. You will find five secluded locations in this place, which can only be reached by train. Everything can be found here, ranging from winding narrow streets to breathtaking views.
However, there are other walking paths that also attract wanderers from all over the world. For example, the Monte Portofino foothills. Even after 70 years this region is still under conservation. Bush forests, olive tree groves, farms, among others, can be seen here today. The whole region, including the villages of Camogli, Portofino and Santa Margherita Liguria can be covered in only three days of walking.
Within only nine days of walking you can undertake a journey from Genoa to Portovenere, and discover the entire Ligurian coast. This takes place in a secluded mountain landscape, a deserted mountain region, quiet mountain meadows and chestnut forests.
In the hinterland you will have the opportunity of wandering from Ventimiglia to La Spezia on the Ligurian Alpine high altitude path. It is also possible to walk across the sea Alps which rise up to 2200 meters. Chestnut forests and grassland areas, however, can only be really appreciated from the Apennines.
Therefore, take some time and let yourself be carried away by the unspoilt environment of Liguria. Breathtaking views over the land and the sea await, winding narrow streets, old paths through forests, villages which are neatly and unexpectedly tucked away in mountains, to mention but a few.
